9 Million Young Adults Are Too Overweight To Join the Military, New Report Shows

Retired Admirals and Generals, Senator Lugar and Agriculture Secretary Vilsack Issue Warning: Childhood Obesity Endangers National Security, Urge Congress to Pass New Legislation To Get Junk Food Out of Schools

Washington, D.C. (April 20, 2010) -- More than 9 million young adults – 27 percent of all Americans age 17 to 24 – are too overweight to join the military, according to a new report released by MISSION: READINESS, a non-profit group of more than 130 retired admirals, generals and other senior military leaders.

Declaring that escalating rates of child obesity pose a serious threat to national security, retired military leaders joined Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack today in support of new child nutrition legislation to help reduce the obesity epidemic and expand the pool of healthy young adults available for military service.

Representing MISSION: READINESS at the event were Lieutenant General Norman R. Seip, US Air Force (Ret.), Brigadier General Clara L. Adams-Ender, US Army (Ret.), Rear Admiral James A. Barnett, Jr., US Navy (Ret.) and Amy Dawson Taggart, National Director of MISSION: READINESS.

While noting other major factors that can keep young adults from joining the military – such as lacking a high school diploma or having a serious criminal record – the report, called Too Fat to Fight, said that weight problems have become the leading medical reason why recruits are rejected for service. The retired generals and admiral pointed to the report’s analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showing a dramatic increase in obesity among young adults across the country since 1995. In the last decade, the number of states with 40 percent or more of young adults considered to be overweight has risen from one state to 39 states.

“We believe that the child obesity issue is so serious it has become a threat to our national security,” said Lt. Gen. Seip. “Mission: Readiness supports efforts by Senator Richard Lugar and Agriculture Secretary Vilsack to get new legislation on the books that would help reduce child obesity.”

Secretary Vilsack, Senator Lugar and the retired military leaders noted additional research showing that up to 40 percent of children’s daily calorie intake occurs at school and that 80 percent of children who were overweight between the ages of 10 to 15 were obese by age 25. They said that improving school nutrition is therefore a crucial area for reducing or preventing child obesity. The retired military leaders called on Congress to enact a robust child nutrition bill that would:

  • Get the junk food and remaining high-calorie beverages out of the nation’s schools
  • Support the administration’s proposal of an increase of $1 billion per year for ten years for child nutrition programs that would improve nutrition standards, upgrade the quality of meals served in schools and enable more children to have access to these programs, and
  • Help develop new school-based strategies, based on research, that help parents and children adopt healthier life-long eating and exercise habits.

“This report reminds us that the argument for military preparedness that helped create our child nutrition programs still applies today and it underscores the importance of tackling this critical issue by passing a bold reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. “The health of our nation – our economy, our national security, and our communities – depends on the health of our children and now is the time to act boldly to give them the healthy start in life that they need and deserve.”

Despite the high number of young adults with weight problems, the retired military leaders noted that all services of the military currently are meeting their recruitment goals, due in part to the poor economy that is encouraging more young people to enlist.

“While we are meeting our recruitment targets today, those of us who have served in command roles are worried about the trends we see,” Rear Admiral Barnett said. “Our national security in the year 2030 is absolutely dependent on reversing the alarming rates of child obesity. When over a quarter of young adults are too fat to fight, we need to take notice. We urge Congress to take action on child nutrition this year.”

Amy Dawson Taggart, national director of MISSION: READINESS, noted that military concerns about the health and fitness of children are not new. “In 1946, Congress passed the National School Lunch Act as a matter of national security,” she said. “Back then young people were undernourished, and now they are poorly nourished. Too many kids are carrying too many pounds, and improving school nutrition is an important place to start. This isn’t about looking good in a uniform, it’s about being healthy and fit to do the work of the nation.”

Brigadier General Adams-Ender said that national security concerns about obesity and lack of physical fitness today are very similar to concerns about poor nutrition following World War II. “Both demand action from Congress,” she said.

“Retired admirals and generals stood up in the past to make it clear that America is only as healthy as our nation’s children. Childhood obesity is now undermining our national security, and we need to start turning it around today,” Brig. Gen. Adams-Ender said. “For the sake of our national security, we call on Congress to pass a strong child nutrition bill this year.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 30, 2010

HALLIBURTON PROVIDES CEMENTING FACTS REGARDING RIG INCIDENT

HOUSTON - Halliburton (NYSE: HAL) confirmed today its continued support of, and cooperation with, the ongoing investigations into the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig incident in the Gulf of Mexico earlier this month. Halliburton extends its heartfelt sympathy to the families, friends and our industry colleagues of the 11 people lost and those injured in the tragedy.

As one of several service providers on the rig, Halliburton can confirm the following:

  • Halliburton performed a variety of services on the rig, including cementing, and had four employees stationed on the rig at the time of the accident. Halliburton's employees returned to shore safely, due, in part, to the brave rescue efforts by the U.S. Coast Guard and other organizations.
  • Halliburton had completed the cementing of the final production casing string in accordance with the well design approximately 20 hours prior to the incident. The cement slurry design was consistent with that utilized in other similar applications.
  • In accordance with accepted industry practice approved by our customers, tests demonstrating the integrity of the production casing string were completed.
  • At the time of the incident, well operations had not yet reached the point requiring the placement of the final cement plug which would enable the planned temporary abandonment of the well, consistent with normal oilfield practice.
  • We are assisting with planning and engineering support for a wide range of options designed to secure the well, including a potential relief well.

Halliburton continues to assist in efforts to identify the factors that may have lead up to the disaster, but it is premature and irresponsible to speculate on any specific causal issues.

Halliburton originated oilfield cementing and leads the world in effective, efficient delivery of zonal isolation and engineering for the life of the well, conducting thousands of successful well cementing jobs each year. The company views safety as critical to its success and is committed to continuously improve performance.

Mayor Richard Daley Wants Your Guns for $75!

There is no way I would ever turn my gun in for $75. That is a lowball offer! Nevertheless, Chicago has horrible violence on its streets. I see young Don Lemon on CNN doing stories about these streets on a regular basis each weekend. I previously linked a story on here about a random riot just happening outside one night (Chicago's Uptown on the Verge of Possible Marital Law Over "Near Riot-Like" Activity?).

Chicago also has some of the nation's most restrictive gun laws. Hmmmm, I wonder if there is a connection. Mayor Richard Daley now wants everyone to turn in their guns - nationwide!

He added: “I wish the President would call upon people to turn in their guns. I wish the governor would do that —all elected officials — and say, ‘Guns destroy people.’’’

No Mayor, people with guns destroy people. Politicians who enact restrictive gun laws leaving thousands defenseless in their homes destroy people.
This year, the bounty is back up to $75 per gun and remains at $100 for every assault weapon and $10 for each BB gun, air gun or gun replica.

Lockheed Martin's Wearable Augmented Reality Display at Air Force JEFX 10 (Future of Net-Enabled Warfare & Intelligence)

Source: PSP Hacks (this pic is from Metal Gear)

A full official press release from Lockheed Martin in connection with the new military technology is below in full. Nationaldefensemagazine.org has also written a very nice article and the technology is something straight out of a video game.

Much of the information collected by human terrain teams is jotted down in notebooks or captured in audio recordings during meetings. But the information is not readily accessible to others. If the data — names, aliases, biometrics, social networks, etc. — were digitized and stored in databases accessible to facial recognition software, then it could be presented to team members unobtrusively during meetings.

For example, if a person wearing the system encountered two people talking on a street corner, facial recognition software might be able to identify the first person, but it might not recognize the second person. The system would alert the user, who could pull up the first person’s social network and skim through his five closest associates to identify the second person. Or the user could collect information from the unknown person to beef up the system’s database.

Basically, everything a soldier sees in the real world will be transmitted in stunning visual quality to a central command location. Central command will be able to research anything the soldier encounters in the world in real time. Someone on the Prison Planet forums likened it to a Metal Gear video game. I wouldn't know, because I haven't played a Metal Gear since the very first version of the game on the 8-bit NES.

Lockheed Martin Demonstrates The Future Of Net-Enabled Warfare At JEFX 10

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, April 29th, 2010 -- A Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) F-16 demonstrated enhanced networked-enabled capabilities during the U.S. Air Force’s Joint Expeditionary Force Experiment 2010 (JEFX 10), April 13-23, at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.

JEFX, planned and executed by the Global Cyberspace Integration Center, is a venue for innovative command and control (C2) and targeting technologies. This year’s event focused on improving the U.S. forces’ ability to conduct irregular warfare (IW). Lockheed Martin’s participation, under the sponsorship of Air Combat Command, centered on the potential benefits of Internet Protocol (IP)-based applications in an irregular warfare context while conducting close air support (CAS) missions. Lockheed Martin’s efforts tied in with Air Force Special Operations Command enhanced capabilities in an integrated operational thread.

During the two week experiment, F-16 pilots demonstrated the capability of the Lockheed Martin Sniper SE advanced targeting pod’s enhanced resolution sensor suite for improved combat identification of ground targets. Sniper SE’s ability to simultaneously track multiple ground vehicles moving through a complex urban environment lowers the pilot’s workload while increasing mission effectiveness.

Using Cursor on Target protocol, continuous targeting information on moving ground vehicles was automatically transmitted to Special Operations Forces (SOF) teams via a Harris Corporation Falcon III® AN/PRC-117G radio using the Advanced Networking Wideband Waveform (ANW2) capability. The wideband networking allowed the formation of mobile ad-hoc radio networks and enabled the transmission of high-bandwidth data and streaming video. Ground teams, each using the U.S. Special Operations Command developed Battlefield Air Operations Kit, subscribed to the F-16’s network to display the vehicles’ real-time location on each SOF ground operator’s map display. Full motion video from Sniper SE was simultaneously streamed over the network as pilots and SOF teams coordinated attacks using simultaneous text messaging, chat and annotated imagery.

In addition to exploring ANW2 capabilities, Lockheed Martin also demonstrated the use of the Rockwell Collins-developed Tactical Targeting Network Technology (TTNT) to collaborate with a wide group of airborne and ground C2 nodes. Acting as a gateway and using the space-based Integrated Broadcast Service (IBS), air crews received current intelligence information on friendly and enemy forces, then automatically translated and republished the information via TTNT, ANW2 and Link 16.

“Improving the SA (situational awareness) of the pilots is vital,” said Colonel Tim Forsythe, chief of Air Combat Command’s combat aircraft division. “If we can pump data into those cockpits before we launch or even update it while we’re on the fly via IBS it will generate more awareness for the pilot arriving in the collaboration airspace of CAS and IW.”

“Partnership with the warfighter is absolutely essential in developing robust product roadmaps,” said Mark Jefferson, director for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Horizontal Integration. “Our ability to integrate advanced capabilities and new technologies into current and challenging environments, such as the irregular warfare operations developed for JEFX 10, allows us to experiment with the fundamental elements necessary for tomorrow’s net-enabled warfighting.”

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 136,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation reported 2009 sales of $45.2 billion.

The Obama eligibility issue: has it already been answered?

No. It has been a common tactic to refute questions about OBAMA’s eligibility by citing the Internet publication of a Certification of Live Birth (COLB), also known as a “short form birth certificate” purportedly issued by the state of Hawaii. The controversial document was originally posted on the Internet at http://www.dailykos.com, a political website on or about 12 June 2008 as questions about OBAMA’s place of birth and eligibility status began to become a popular Internet topic. As there was no certification of authenticity that accompanied the alleged document, its provenance could not be established.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Drones Patrolling Las Vegas, Nevada Skies

This story comes from Public Intelligence. Public Intelligence says that the police are demanding that the documents be removed from the World Wide Web. Therefore, you should check the document out before it gets pulled. I'm not going to embed it here, but the link is here (use it as your own risk).

As of the date of this writing, the documents are still up and available, so it is probably too late to put the genie back in the bottle.

Public Intelligence has received several messages from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department requesting the removal of a Law Enforcement Sensitive document which was published on March 25, 2010 regarding Nevada’s “Silver Shield” infrastructure protection program. The document, which is from November 2007, reveals that Las Vegas Police are using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and systems to patrol the city and deliver aerial imagery during incidents or special events.

Federal Stimulus Dollars Used to Install Orwellian Proximity Card Readers to Track Student Attendance at Northern Arizona University

Why is the government spending $75,000 in stimulus dollars at Northern Arizona for this ridiculous track, trace and database system? It has been a long time since I was haunting the halls of various universities, but I haven't forgotten the supposed freedoms of my college years. Nevertheless, this is no way to treat young adults. However, they always say that college is the lab where the system prepares youth for government and/or corporate labor and service. College gets all the new technology first, so you can bet that you will soon see systems like this at your local job to ensure you are at your workstation at the proper time.

Northern Arizona University will install an electronic system that detects when each student with an ID card walks through the door to some large classrooms. The system will produce an attendance report for the instructor...

This fall, the university plans to begin equipping classrooms on the Flagstaff campus with technology that will "read" a student's ID when he or she enters the classroom. The readers are so sensitive that students won't even have to take their IDs out of their pockets, said David Bousquet, NAU's vice president of enrollment management and student affairs.

The card readers, estimated to cost a total of $75,000 and paid for by federal stimulus funds, will be phased in. Eventually, Bousquet wants to install card readers in all classrooms that seat 50 or more students. Each faculty member could decide whether to use the system.

DARPA & Lockheed Martin Investigate Loss of Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle-2 (HTV-2)

Why are these defense and space agencies always losing contact with the vehicles they send up into space. NASA does it and now DARPA seems to be following suit. Remixx World! reported on the recent launch of the Minotaur IV (Orbital Suborbital Program ll (OSP-2) Minotaur IV Space Launch Vehicle (SLV) Set for Liftoff on DARPA Mission to Develop Hypersonic Technologies) that carried this Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle-2 (HTV-2) in its payload.

The third stage of the Orbital Sciences Minotaur IV Lite booster successfully completed energy-management maneuvers, released its clamshell payload fairing and deployed the HTV-2 at the edge of the atmosphere, but telemetry signals from the hypersonic glider were lost about 9 minutes into the mission, DARPA says.

Launched from Vandenberg AFB, Calif. on April 22, the unmanned HTV-2 was planned to cross the Pacific and impact the ocean north of Kwajalein Atoll in the first of two flights to demonstrate technology for a prompt global strike weapon capable of flying 9,000nm in less than 2 hours.

President Obama Jokingly Says He Grew Up in Africa at Naturalization Ceremony for Active-Duty Service Members

If someone presents the below statement as further evidence that something is fishy with President Obama's background and citizenry, I know that the President and his skilled team of public handlers will easily brush off the President's remarks like a duck shakes off water. Nevertheless, it caught my attention, so I figured I would share. Basically, President Obama says that he could have never imagined being President while growing up in Africa.

You can read the full Presidential release from April 23, 2010 at the White House - Remarks by the President at Naturalization Ceremony for Active-Duty Service Members.

Here is the relevant part with the emphasis added.

Now, we have one other piece of business. Would Sergeant Ledum Ndaanee please come forward. There he is. How are you, sir?

SERGEANT NDAANEE: Hello, sir.

THE PRESIDENT: Growing up in Nigeria, Ledum probably never imagined he’d be standing on this stage today.

SERGEANT NDAANEE: That’s right, sir.

THE PRESIDENT: Neither did I. (Laughter.) But thanks to the generosity of churches in Virginia, he and his parents found a home in the United States. And Ledum, who says “I always wanted to be in the military,” found his calling in the United States Marine Corps.

Australia's Chief Medical Officer Tells Doctors to Stop Giving Seasonal Flu Vaccine to Children Due to Febrile Convulsion

The Chief Medical Officer of the great land down under Australia where the koala bears and kangaroos play has told local medics and doctors to cease giving the seasonal flu vaccine to kids. It is alleged that the vaccine is negatively impacting children's health, but it does not specify the underlying cause (e.g., the ingredients of the vaccine). Could it be because the vaccine contains toxic ingredients such as thimerosal and squalene adjuvants?

[Professor Jim Bishop] said the concerns stemmed from a significant rise in the number of children developing a fever after receiving the vaccine.

Western Australian Health Minister Kim Hames yesterday suspended the state’s free flu vaccination program for children under five, after some recipients went into a febrile convulsion - a fit caused by a high temperature.

Headline Seen on Veterans Today: Stage Being Set for a "Dirty Bomb" False Flag

It seems that I am not the only one predicting some type of false flag attack in the next few weeks. Veterans Today is now saying the same thing.

Rumors of an upcoming terror attack to be blamed on Iran are moving around the world, “backchannel chatter.” The primary suspect is Israel who is said to have a number of small “suitcase” type nuclear weapons, some primarily “dirty bombs,” possibly supplied secretly by a previous US administration. These devices are in the “40 ton” range, highly radioactive, extremely small and can be engineered to leave the signature of a primitive device. They were originally designed for use against Soviet armor and troop concentrations in Europe if a massed attack on NATO were to occur. Current conventional systems have made this type of weapon obsolete.
